What is the Portable Large GPS tracker best suited for?
The Portable Large GPS tracker is suited to long life asset tracking, external mounting and tougher environments where extended battery life is important.
It has approximately double the battery life of our Portable Small tracker, making it a better option for trailers, equipment, machinery, assets and vehicles that need longer periods between battery changes.
Does the Portable Large tracker need installation?
No vehicle wiring is required. The Portable Large tracker is battery powered and can be mounted to a vehicle or asset using screws, bolts, rivets, zip ties or suitable double sided tape.
Final placement should consider GPS reception, mobile signal, temperature, exposure, how securely the tracker is mounted and whether magnetic tamper detection will be used.

What batteries does the Portable Large tracker use?
The Portable Large tracker uses 3 AA lithium batteries.
Batteries are not included. We recommend Energizer Lithium batteries for maximum performance.
How long does the battery last?
Battery life depends heavily on tracking intervals, how often the asset moves, network coverage, temperature, installation position, orientation, accelerometer settings and other factors.
As a guide, the Portable Large tracker has approximately double the battery life of our Portable Small tracker, making it better suited to longer term tracking where fewer battery changes are preferred.
Periodic tracking can provide up to 10 years at 1 update per day, around 2.4 years at 1 update per hour, or around 1.2 years at 2 updates per hour.
For trip based tracking, estimates include approximately 10 years for a 15 minute trip 5 days per week, 9.2 years for a 30 minute trip 5 days per week, or 3.8 years for a 1 hour trip 7 days per week.
Can tracking intervals be customised?
Yes. Tracking intervals can be adjusted depending on how often you need location updates and how much battery life you want to preserve.
Trip based tracking uses default 2 minute GPS logging and 3 minute updates. Other tracking modes are also available, including trip based GPS movement detection, periodic updates and scheduled updates.
You can request changes through our portable interval change form.
How does magnetic tamper detection work?
The Portable Large tracker supports magnetic tamper detection. When set up, optional alerting can notify you if the tracker is removed from your asset.
The magnet is affixed to the asset and the tracker is placed directly over it, with the magnet aligned to the hole on the underside of the tracker.
If you plan to use magnetic tamper detection, the magnet should remain removed until the tracker connects for the first time. For setup steps, view our Portable Large installation guide.
Is the Portable Large tracker waterproof?
Yes. The Portable Large tracker has an IP68 housing for water and dust resistance.
It also has an IK07 impact resistant housing, making it suitable for external mounting in tougher environments when installed and sealed correctly.
Will I receive low battery alerts?
Yes. The Portable Large tracker supports continuous voltage monitoring with low and critical battery alerts.
This helps provide warning before batteries need to be replaced.
Does it support temperature monitoring?
Yes. The tracker supports approximate device temperature updates and can be used with custom device temperature alerts.
Its operating temperature range is listed as -30°C to +60°C.
What network does the Portable Large tracker use?
The Portable Large tracker uses Telstra 4G LTE-M and NB-IoT connectivity.
These technologies are designed to support enhanced coverage in hard to reach areas and evolving cellular networks.
What happens outside mobile coverage?
The Portable Large tracker includes internal memory for offline tracking.
Location records can be stored when the tracker is outside network coverage and uploaded automatically once it reconnects.
